Sticky Thompson the Great

Sticky passed a couple of days ago at the age of 78.

He was Jamaica’s most prolific musician. Ever. Period.

I was fortunate enough to have the immense privilege of working with him on several projects and each time, he dazzled me. Creative, fun, with an attitude to boot. Just GREAT.

His discography would take days to detail. It is huge, from Peter, Bunny and Bob to Grace Jones, Joe Cocker, the list goes on and on and reads like a Reggae dictionary.

Here is a wonderful portrait of Uzzaiah “Sticky” Thompson by Laurent Gudin.

And below is a video of him during the sessions with Horace Andy and the rest of the Revolutionaries at Harry J in 2006. Am I glad I filmed those sessions with those legends. Check how much attitude he puts into his take, and his humor is lovely…
